Dobby & jacquard design — done for you

Designs that actually weave.

Loom-ready dobby and jacquard designs for mills and brands — weave drafts, construction specs and colorways engineered for the loom you run, not just the screen.

How it is built

From warp and weft to a weave draft.

Warp, weft, and the point-paper draft that tells the loom what to do.

Why it matters

A JPEG is not a weaving instruction.

01

The design the loom can't read

Artwork without a weave draft means your mill's designer redraws it — days lost, and the result is their interpretation, not your design.

02

The float that snags

A thread left floating too long looks fine in the file and catches on the first fingernail in the shop. Float length is checked structurally, or it isn't checked.

03

The repeat that doesn't fit

A jacquard repeat that ignores the hook count gets stretched or cropped at the mill — and your motif distorts with it.

Every design we deliver has already answered the loom's questions.

Which loom does your idea need?

Dobby or jacquard — we'll tell you straight.

If the cheaper loom can do it, we say so. That's the point of the 24-hour quote.

Dobby

  • Geometric textures, stripes, checks, small motifs
  • Repeat limited by the shafts — typically up to 16–32 ends
  • Faster and cheaper to run — the workhorse of shirting
  • Pique, oxford, herringbone, waffle, seersucker effects

Jacquard

  • Every warp end controlled — pictorial designs, no repeat limit in the width of the harness
  • Damasks, brocades, tapestry, logos, portraits in cloth
  • Multiple weave structures inside one design — matt against satin, sheen against shadow
  • Designed to your machine's hook count, exactly
What you get

Not a pretty JPEG. A weaving instruction.

01

Point-paper weave draft

The design on point paper — every intersection decided, ready for the loom software.

02

Construction spec

EPI, PPI, yarn counts and weave structure per area — the sheet your weaver reads first.

03

Repeat sized to your loom

Built to your hook count or shaft count — no stretching, no cropping at the mill.

04

Woven simulation

See structure, floats and colour mixing before a single pick is thrown.

05

Float check, documented

Maximum float lengths verified per structure — the snag test happens in the file.

06

Warp & weft colorways

Variants engineered for weft-change economics — more range, fewer warps.

07

Blanket layout on request

Multiple colorways arranged for a single sampling run.

08

Exclusive ownership

Full rights transfer on final payment — never resold, never re-coloured for anyone else.

09

Two revision rounds

Structure, colour and motif adjustments — most designs approved in round one.

Colorway economics

Change the weft, not the warp.

At the mill, swapping weft yarns between colorways is quick and cheap. Re-beaming a new warp is neither. So we design your colorway range to pull as much variety as possible from weft changes alone — and when a colorway genuinely needs a new warp, we flag it before you commit, not after the mill invoices you.

This is the kind of decision that's invisible in a JPEG and very visible in your production cost.

Structure vocabulary

The structures your mill already trusts.

Plain & rib Twill 2/1 · 3/1 · herringbone Satin & sateen Waffle / honeycomb Pique & bedford cord Multi-structure jacquard Double cloth

In a jacquard, structures are the palette — satin catches light where twill holds shadow. That contrast is the design.

Design + simulation review

You approve the woven simulation — structure and colour, not just artwork. Two rounds included.

Proof, honestly

Client weaves are client property — here's what we can show.

Questions

Asked before every weave.

A weavable design. You get the point-paper weave draft, the construction spec (EPI, PPI, yarn counts, weave structures per area), the repeat sized to your loom's hook count or shaft count, and a woven simulation so you can approve the look before yarn is committed. An image is the starting point; the weaving instruction is the deliverable.

No — that's our first job. Small geometric textures with a limited repeat usually run on dobby; pictorial, large-repeat or multi-structure designs need jacquard. We'll tell you which your idea needs, and if the cheaper loom can do it, we'll say so.

Yes. Tell us the loom's hook count (jacquard) or number of shafts (dobby), reed and pick density, and yarn library — or introduce us to your mill and we'll take those details directly. The repeat is built to those numbers, not adapted afterwards.

Included — and engineered honestly. Weft colorway changes are cheap at the mill; warp changes are not. We design the colorways so as many variants as possible come from weft changes only, and we'll flag any that would force a new warp.

You review a woven simulation that shows the structure, not just the artwork — floats, texture and colour mixing included. Two revision rounds are built in. Mills can also request a blanket layout for sampling multiple colorways in one run.

You do — mill or brand, whoever commissions it. Full rights transfer on final payment, the design is never resold or re-coloured for anyone else, and we don't show it publicly without your written OK.
